Here, I share what I am advocating to change as a result of Soraya’s death.
A month after Soraya died, I received her hospital records, and I knew I would never find peace. It was so easily preventable if the healthcare system had worked with, instead of against, us. The mental health system needs to change and it needs to change before more young people die.
I’m also advocating for change in the education system. Soraya struggled with being bullied at her first primary school and then again in secondary school. Nothing seems to have changed or been done about the kids who bullied her to the point of suicide.
I used to be someone who put their trust in society. Now I know there are so many lies we are told. No one looks out for our young people like they deserve.
Help me make change here.
